Vydehi Institute of Pharmacy celebrated
Two days event of "The 58th National Pharmacy Week" on 28th and
29th of November with great joy and enthusiasm. The major focus of NPW celebrations is to create awareness amongst the public, other healthcare providers and the authorities, about the NPW theme in particular and about the pharmacy profession and the role of the pharmacist in general. The theme selected for this year was: "Pharmacist: Your Medication Counsellor", with an aim to give
attention in bringing awareness on public health and to avoid
dangerous drug interactions, adverse health effects and prevent or
minimize potential problems with medication safety. 28th November,
first day of the program was a fun filled day at VIP as our
students actively participated in various competitions like
PharmaQuiz, Dumb Charades, Singing, dancing , Cooking without fire,
Caroms, Treasure Hunt and Rangoli Competitions. 29th was the final
day of the celebrations which was equally colourful with "ethnic
wear day" for our students and staff. Prof.Dr. Lakshmayy,
Principal, VIP organized and invited Prof.Dr. Ramachandra Setty,
Prof and Dean RGUHS, GCP Bangalore and Prof.Dr. V.G. Joshi,
Professor in Pharmaceutics as chief Guest and Guest of Honor
respectively. The program started at 11:00 AM with the traditional
Lamp lighting ceremony followed by a prayer song by Ms Reenu Thomas
who mesmerized everyone with her beautiful voice. The event
proceeded with a welcome note about the occasion and a brief
introduction to the chief guests on the Dias. Prof.Dr. Ramachandra
Setty, inspired everyone in the room to great heights with his
wonderful words of wisdom. In his speech he said that an
institution should promote the highest professional and ethical
standards of pharmacy, focus the image of pharmacists as competent
health care professionals, sensitize the community, government and
others on vital professional issues. Quoting this year's theme he
said that Pharmacists must also educate the patient about the
ailment they are suffering from, the changes they need to bring in
their lifestyle, food habits to maintain a healthy and disease free
life. Pharmacists need to explain patients and community about the
rational use of drugs and how spurious or fake drugs can be
detected to avoid using those by all means. Later, Prof. Joshi's
words were equally inspiring as he said that When all of us work
together and start making our presence visible and demonstrate the
value addition to the patients and community, the importance of the
pharmacist in the society gets recognized by one and all. The
program was concluded with vote of thanks by Ms. Jeevitha and
felicitation of our Chief Guests by our principal.
